One of these days I'll have the time to go learn all those tools and build something amazing. I remember we had a nice big dedicated thread at the old place and just the wonder of opening that first Early Access release with everyone was great. Being early into the Planet Coaster community was great though. One thing I never really got involved with was the community, as I was just so young when 1 and 2 came out - I want to say 10/11, and the community for 3 was already well established by the time I got super into it years after it came out - so usually I just followed tutorials for custom scenery and looked at old forum posts. Huge amount of love for Parkitect as well though, I think what they pulled off is incredible. Something about the sandbox style drew me more toward 3 as I am much more creative than interested in the management side, something that drew me eventually toward Planet Coaster vs. In addition, OpenRCT2 adds several unique features, such as cooperative.
I think Danny did a great job with this, and while my RCT of choice is 3, I started with 1 when that first came out, then eventually 2. OpenRCT2 is a free and open-source recreation of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 (RCT2) that incorporates some features from the original RollerCoaster Tycoon (RCT1) that were removed in RCT2, while also fixing some issues present in the official games, and incorporating changes seen in RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic (RCTC).
Man they certainly have tried some scummy shit with this franchise. And good on NoClip for pointing out all the bullshit pulled by Atari in recent years lol. One of my absolute favorites on the RCT series. Imagine your favorite game and you get a version that has all kinds of options that make you go "YES! THESE people get it!" For me going through the advanced options menu was like a kid in a candy store. So many quality of life changes that only super fans would want and implement. I learned that apparently Simon Foster, the person who created the graphics, now has a Udemy course on graphic design tutorials and I'll be excited to check that out. At this moment, the game is playable on Windows, Linux, macOS and Android. This allows developers to extend the gameplay, alter the game, and even port the game to other platforms. The developers have taken the original game, decompiled it and eventually rewrote everything. RCT1 is my favorite game of all time, and RCT2 really did a lot, albeit a bit too much for me what with the stackable scenery for me resulting in just ugly looking scenery more often than not. OpenRCT2 is a free open-source remake of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2. And the concluding remarks really put a nice bow on it all. I love the ongoing narrative throughout the video over Chris Sawyer himself and whether or not they were able to hear back from him lol. Watched it earlier today and incredible stuff.
